KIDS- FUN AND PLAY

Here I am going to discuss with you some of the good games I got from net which we can arrange for Birthday parties or during get-togethers.

1. Cats Tail game

Get long strips of cloth any extra you have a round make them at least one yard long and have the kids put them in the back of there pants (or create little Velcro attachments), with it just hitting the ground.

Then have the kids run after each other trying to step on there tail. When they lose there tail they are out of the game the winner is the last one with a tail. A couple rounds of this game should tire them out real fast.

2.Balloon Burst

Take small pieces of paper, you will need 1 per balloon, and on one piece of paper (more if you have more than 1 prize) write You Won a Prize on the rest of the pieces of paper write “Sorry Not a Winner Please Pop Again.”

Now fold up the paper and place 1 piece of paper per balloon and blow up the balloons.

When you are ready to play, place the balloons in a room (if outside the balloons could blow away) and tell the kids that there is a prize in one of the balloons, but to find out what it is they must burst the balloon.

You can have the kids take turns in selecting and popping a balloon or you could release them all at the same time. (Which means some kids will pop more balloons than others.) Either way works.

For young kids the parents can pop the balloons and the kids can just go get one. Also if really young, you may want to have a lot of little prizes (candy) and one bigger one. Otherwise kids can sit on the balloons, stomp on them or whatever to pop them.

Variation

Rather then pieces of paper insert small pieces of candy into the balloons, that way every balloon has something fun inside.

3. Lucky corner

Draw a big circle and divide into 4 parts by putting plus sign inside the circle. Mark the fours parts of the circle as A,B,C,D .Make the kids go round the circle when the music starts. When the music stops they have to select one part and stand in that part either Aor B or C or D.

Take four same size square paper and write in A,B,C,D. When the music stops draw one paper and open the folded paper and see what letter is inside . Suppose if the letter is A then all the kids standing in part A or out of game. Repeat this game.

When there is four ask them to stand seperately so that you can see winner 1,2 and 3.

4. Duck, Duck, Goose

All of the children will sit down in a circle facing each other. They are now the “Ducks”. Pick one child to be the Fox. The Fox slowly walks around the outside of the circle, gently tapping the other players heads while saying “Duck” each time he/she taps.

After a few times around the circle, the Fox selects a “Goose” by tapping a players head and calling “Goose!”. The Goose quickly jumps up and chases the Fox around the circle, trying to tag him before he can get to the spot where the Goose was just sitting. If the Fox succeeds in taking the Goose’s place he is now safe and the Goose becomes the Fox. If however the Fox is tagged while running from the Goose, he must start the game again.

5.Prize Walk Birthday Game

Have a birthday prize walk instead of a cakewalk. Place numbers on the ground in a circle or oval. Start the music and the birthday party kids walk around the circle until the music stops. Pick a number out of a hat or roll a dice to decide which number wins a prize. The child that is standing on the number that is picked gets to choose a small toy from the birthday games prize table.

6.Mystery Fishing Game

For the “water” use a large appliance box, hang a sheet across a doorway, or cover a table so that the “fish” (and the person in the water) are hidden from view. Tie a string to a stick and attach a clothespin on the end of the string. Birthday party guests take turns “casting” the line into the “water”. The person in the “water” puts small gifts, favors or candy on the clothespin and then tugs the string to signal that there is a “fish” on

the line. Then kids pull up the line and retrieve their prize. This is a simple but fantastic birthday party game that kids adore! Have lots of prizes because they will all want to do this birthday party game again and again.

7. Bubbles

Kids love bubbles. Blow bubbles and see if they can pop the bubbles before they hit the floor. Then see who can catch bubbles on their wand. If you have older children attending the party see who can blow the biggest or smallest bubble.

8.Parade

Kids turning 2, 3 and 4 love parades. Make your own birthday party parade by giving children musical instruments – drums, shakers, horns, etc. and have them follow you around the house or yard playing their “birthday song”. Or have the children follow you with streamers or ribbons and have a dance parade. If the children all have doll strollers or wagons let them parade with their dolls and stuffed animals.

9.Freeze Dance Game

Play fast music and let the kids dance. Then stop the music (or call our “Freeze!”) and everyone must stop dancing and “freeze” in that position until you say “Unfreeze”. Then start over and have them dance again.

Yoga (90 minutes program)

Yoga is quickly becoming a popular method of execise because it is proving to increase your overall quality of life. Yoga postures (asanas) are the physical positions that coordinate breath with movement and with holding the position to stretch, strengthen and lengthen the body. Yoga involves almost every muscle in the body, the limbs function as free weights, resistance is created by moving the body's center of gravity, and strengthening gives way to endurance as poses are held for longer periods of time. Yoga stresses quality over quantity, consistent fitness (hatha) style yoga can have positive results on both your inner and outer body. Yoga is a non-threatening method of exercise that can enhance your lifestyle whatever your age of fitness level.

Hatha yoga

Hatha yoga types

Three General Types of Asanas :
Asanas can be divided into meditative, relaxing, and cultural asanas. These three types of postures are quite different in their purpose and technique

Meditative Asanas

These are cross-legged sitting postures which allow you to sit upright and relaxed for a longer time. They provide a stable seat for meditation. The aim is to train your body so you can sit a long time without moving any part of your body. This is important if you are practicing meditation or pranayama and want to come to a deep concentration.
You should choose the posture that is most comfortable for you and start practicing it for 15 minutes. You can increase the length gradually.
In the raja yoga sutras the asana is defined as a steady, firm, and comfortable posture.

There are five main meditative postures:

•Padmasana or lotus
•Siddhasana or adept's pose
•Swastikasana or locked-ankles pos
•Sukhasana or easy pose
•Vajrasana for people who cannot sit cross-legged

Asanas for Relaxation

The asanas for relaxation are designed in a way that there is no need to contract any muscle. It is important to practice them exactly so your body can come to a deep relaxation and is not just lying on the floor.

There are three main relaxation postures:

•Savasana or corpse pose
•Abdominal relaxation pose
•Garbhasana or child's pose

The first asana of this type, savasana, is also used for yoga nidra, the powerful system of deep relaxation, visualization and self transformation

Cultural Asanas :

There are three important phases in the practice of cultural asanas — each of them equally important and should be paid equal attention:

•Coming into the position
•Holding the position
•Getting out of the position
This group contains by far the largest amount of asanas. It is said that there are 84 lakhs (8.4 million) yoga postures. Of these, 84 are more important and 12 of them constitute the structure of the Rishikesh sequence sometimes called Sivananda series or Yoga Vidya series.

The cultural asanas can be divided in seven groups:

•Dynamic sequences - such as the sun saltuation
•Inverted postures - such as the headstand or the shoulderstand
•Forward bending postures - such as the sitting forward bend aka Paschimottanasana.
•Backward bending postures - such as the cobra , locust , or bow poses
•Twisting postures - such as the half spinal twist
•Side ward bending postures - such as the triangle poses
•Standing postures including balancing poses - such as the tree pose.

Every yoga sequence should at least contain one out of every of the groups listed above. If you take one asana of every group, you will move your spine in every direction and use all the muscles of your body. Depending on the order in which you practice them you influence the flow of the prana in your body.

What is yoga ? Different types of yoga

Source : iyengar yoga

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word "Yuj" meaning to yoke, join or unite. This implies joining or integrating all aspects of the individual - body with mind and mind with soul - to achieve a happy, balanced and useful life, and spiritually, uniting the individual with the supreme.

In India, Yoga is considered one of the six branches of classical philosophy and is referred to throughout the Vedas - ancient Indian scriptures and amongst the oldest texts in existence. The Upanishads are also broadly philosophical treatises which postdate the Vedas and deal with the nature of the "soul" and universe.
However, the origins of yoga are believed to be much older than that, stemming from the oral traditions of Yogis, where knowledge of Yoga was handed down from Guru (spiritual teacher) to Sisya (spiritual student) all the way back to the originators of Yoga, "the Rishis," who first began investigation into the nature of reality and man's inner world.
Legend has it that knowledge of  Yoga was first passed by Lord Shiva to his wife Parvati and from there into the lives of men.

What is asanas :

Asana is defined as "posture;" its literal meaning is "seat." Originally, the asanas served as stable postures for prolonged meditation. More than just stretching, asanas open the energy channels, chakras and psychic centers of the body. Asanas purify and strengthen the body and control and focus the mind. Asana is one of the eight limbs of classical Yoga, which states that asana should be steady and comfortable, firm yet relaxed.

When holding a yoga posture, make sure you can breathe slowly and deeply, using Dirga or Ujjiayi Pranayama. Go to your edge in the posture, holding where you feel a good stretch and/or your body working, but don‚t feel pain, strain or fatigue. If you have not practiced yoga postures before, please read our beginner’s guide.

According to advaita vedanta, the goal of life is to discover our true nature. It is usually called self realization  or God realization.

Although this goal, our final destination, is one, there are many ways to reach it. People have different temperaments and accordingly, there are different techniques, yogas, to help them find the truth.

                                             Four Margas or Paths

There are as many paths as there are people. Practically though, there are a few hundreds of yogas, or practices which are categorized into the four main paths. These paths are:

Jnana Yoga

The path of wisdom and knowledge. The jnani uses his will and power of discrimination to cut through the veil of ignorance and attain the truth.
For the jnani, the goal is absolute Truth.Jnana Yoga appeals to the philosophical and intellectual temperament.

Bhakti Yoga

The path of love and devotion. The bhakta uses the combined energies of all emotions and transmutes them, sublimates them into the highest of all emotions: prem.
Prem is pure, conditionless, divine love. For the bhakta, or devotee, the goal is pure love.
Bhakti Yoga appeals to the emotional temperament.

Raja Yoga

The path of self control and self mastery. The raja yogi controls his mind until it becomes perfectly still at which time there is no more wall between himself and his own divine nature.
The main practice in Raja Yoga is meditation. For the raja yogi, the goal is perfect mind control.
Raja Yoga appeals to the mystical and scientific temperament.

Karma Yoga

The path of selfless service. For the karma yogi, the main problem is our inherent selfishness which is based on spiritual ignorance, avidya. The key is to practice selfless actions without any selfish expectations, and thereby opening one's heart and seeing God in all beings.
For the karma yogi, the goal is complete selflessness.
Karma Yoga appeals to the active temperament.

                                                Two More for Good Measure

Among the additional hundred yogas out there, two more stand out as particulary important:

Kundalini Yoga

Derived from the tantric tradition this yoga aims at purifying the physical and psychic systems, and then awakening the cosmic power residing in the muladhara chakra at the base of the spine.

Upon awakening and raising of this spiritual power it unites with the consciousness center in the crown of the head and thereby grants liberation to the spiritual aspirant and practitoner of Kundalini Yoga .

Hatha Yoga

Sometimes called the physical aspect of yoga it works mostly on the psychic level. Besides its innumerable medical benefits, hatha yoga is essential support to both raja yoga and kundalini yoga.

Good explanation on the four margas or paths of yoga.
